When (Prince) Harry met Mel

Being an international student, I am now a member of the International Society here at the University of Glasgow. The international society hosts weekly events in addition to trips around the UK every weekend. I haven’t gone on any of their trips before, but this weekend they headed to St. Andrews and that was a trip I definitely did not want to miss!

Seeing as the next Royal Wedding will be mine, I knew I couldn’t miss my chance to head off to the place where Will met Kate: the University of St. Andrews! The bus ride was long, but we had an entertaining host. She was telling us random facts about St Andrews and said that her “mom’s biggest disappointment was that I wasn’t old enough to go to university with Prince William” …I like her. Anyway, as it turns out there really isn’t much to St. Andrews aside from walking around the University and the golf course. And you can’t even walk around the golf course; you can only take pictures of it (unless you’re playing, which, obviously, none of us were). It was also snowing/raining the entire time we were there, so we ended up stopping in many cafes along the way! While we were there, we walked around the cathedral and the castle and most of the town. Aside from there not being much to do, St Andrews really is beautiful (I feel like that’s how I describe everything, but whatever). You can check out more of my pictures here. And yes, I did stop at the Old Course and even walked into many a golf shop despite my strong dislike for golf.

We also stopped at Queensferry on the way to St Andrews! Queensferry is home to Forth Bridge, which is the 2nd longest cantilever bridge in the world, and also a famous Scottish landmark. The bus stopped for 15 minutes and let us all out to take pictures and such.

Forth Bridge Rail!

This seems like a rather boring post, but St Andrews wasn’t really that bad!! There wasn’t much to do aside from look at pretty things and take pictures in front of every “Will and Kate were here!” sign. So while it was beautiful, it was uneventful. It was a nice relaxing break from Glasgow, and fun to go off and explore Scotland!

Love you!
Mel

PS more postcards will be on their way.. eventually
