Shark Tank Reunited!

This weekend was pretty epic. Michaela, my roommate from Chapman who is currently studying abroad in Cannes, France, came to visit me and needless to say, hilarity ensued. She got here late Thursday night, and upon her arrival we promptly ordered a pizza from Domino's and started talking (face to face!!) about our study abroad lives thus far. After dinner, we started recording ridiculous videos for our friends back home (shoutout to Britne, Eddie, and Camille - WE MISS YOU) and planning the rest of our weekend. We came up with some interesting ideas... which you will read about now!

As you may or may not know, I have been wanting to do something ridiculous to my hair for a while. I'll admit, the desire comes and goes, but lately I've really been wanting to do it and since Michaela knows more about punk hair styles than anyone else I know, I figured this would be a good time to ask her opinion. What I did not expect was that Friday morning after we ate breakfast, we would find ourselves wandering down Great Western Road looking for a reasonably priced punk hair salon. Long story short, she got one of her bleach streaks widened/extended and I got a few pink streaks!!!

It's kind of hard to tell in this picture, but you can see it a bit. It goes back from there, and when my hair is straight there are random pink strands everywhere. It looks pretty awesome. I'll try and get a better picture at some point, but I make no promises... plus, you'll be able to see it a bit more later on in this blog with the rest of the pictures and such.

After getting our hair done, we walked down good ol' Byres Road and I took Michaela to the University campus (aka the main building, because who really wants to see anything besides that?). We stood and just looked at it in all it's glory for a while. It really is breathtaking. You just don't see sights like that anywhere else. At least, not anywhere I've been. Once we were done staring at the main building, we decided to head over to City Centre so Michaela could see the sights, and so we could go shopping, and because there's not much else to do in Glasgow at 3pm.

City Centre was exciting as usual. We walked down Buchanan Street and went to George's Square to take pictures like tourists. Well, Michaela took pictures, because I left my camera battery charging in my room. Oops. My mom was kind enough to treat us to a steak dinner if we so desired, so we decided to head over to BoVine, the restaurant where we had dinner on my birthday, and we dined by candelight on delicious meat and brownies and ice cream. Thanks mom!!

If you are unfamiliar with the antics of Michaela and I, it might come as a surprise to you that we know all of the words to every Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens duet, and also all of World of Color and "Elephant Love Medley" from Moulin Rouge. Post-dinner, we decided to continue on with our videos from the night before and recorded many entertaining movies of us acting out these lovely tunes. There is one video in the post below this, and there are others on facebook if you feel the need to watch them.

Saturday we decided to go to Edinburgh, because Michaela wanted to see the epic statue for Sir Walter Scott and because Edinburgh is awesome. We took a hop on/hop off bus tour because we were lazy and it was raining, and that really is the best way to see a city. We got off at the castle stop, took the touristy pictures from the square below the castle, and then climbed up "Granny's Green Steps" to the castle. I would like to see Granny climb those steps, because even after hiking to class every day I was completely out of breath once we made it to the top. It was worth it, though. The view from the castle is incredible, and I personally could have just stood there all day just looking at the castle itself. A real live castle, less than 500 feet in front of me!! CRAZY!!

The Royal Shark Tank
We left Edinburgh around 4:15 and decided on the train that we wanted to see a movie. Thanks to the wonders of the internet and iPhones, by the time we got back to Glasgow we already had tickets to see The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (and they were discounted because we bought them online)! The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel was a great movie - it was really cute and definitely worth my 5 pounds. If you're ever looking for a nice, feel-good comedy, I highly suggest it. Plus, Maggie Smith is in it, and she's hysterical.

After the movie, we came back to my flat (after waiting around 20 minutes for a taxi. ridiculous.) and I made dinner for both of us. We had pasta, breaded chicken, and garlic bread, and it was delicious if I do say so myself. As Michaela said, that was a perfectly respectable meal in terms of what we ate, and this just furthers my confidence in someone letting us live on our own in an apartment next year. Britne, you're in for a treat.

Michaela left today at noon, and since then I have showered, napped, and finished Season 2 of Full House. Ahh, priorities. I'm not sure what I'm doing the rest of the week, but if something interesting happens, I'll definitely let you know. That's all for now!

Love you!
Mel

PS This video made my day. You all should watch it. I miss you all so much!!
